FANEYAKÅN SINIPOK
CHamoru Immersion Program

The Faneyåkan Sinipok is a CHamoru immersion program that utilizes the CHamoru language as the medium of instruction in all content areas throughout the school day. It aims to develop fluent and proficient generations in all academic subjects of the CHamoru language.

for School Year 2025 – 2026 

The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) announces that the Faneyåkan, CHamoru Medium/Immersion Program for kindergarten students for the upcoming school year 2025 – 2026 is accepting applications beginning Friday, March 21, 2025. We invite families to apply for their child, as the program promotes academic growth and fosters CHamoru culture and appreciation. The immersion program is located at P.C. Lujan Elementary School.  

Application is open to all children who will be 5 years old by July 31, 2025. To apply, families must meet the  following requirements:

2. Students with CHamoru language skills preferred, not required,  

 

3. Families must commit eight (8) hours monthly to providing support/service to the program. 4. Families must commit to learning the Chamoru language and culture to provide an immersive language environment for the students outside the classroom.  

 

The selection process will involve reviewing all applications, followed by an interview with selected families to discuss the program.  

The Faneyåkan Program, preparing its seventh cohort since inception, was developed to address the critical need for children to speak and be proficient in the CHamoru language. The program uses the CHamoru language as a medium of instruction for all core subjects. The program's school days are Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:43 p.m. Parents and/or guardians must provide transportation to and from school. School busing is available for students who live within the attendance zones of P.C. Lujan Elementary School.

Starting in School Year (SY) 2025-2026, the program will offer an immersive experience in which pre-kindergarten students will engage in daily conversations, storytelling, traditional songs, and hands-on cultural activities conducted in Fino' CHamoru.

 

Families with children residing in Guam and will be four years of age by July 31, 2025 (born between August 1, 2020 – July 31, 2021) are eligible to apply for Faneyåkan Pre-Kindergarten.

 

The initiative is led by fluent speakers, elders, and language educators to empower new generations to speak and carry forward the Chamoru language. The Faneyåkan Pre-Kindergarten program is open to all families interested in and committed to integrating Chamoru into everyday spaces.

 

All eligible applicants will be interviewed to discuss program requirements and commitments.
