2022 School Safety Conference: "Safety and Health at the Heart of Our Work"

School safety is paramount and the three-day conference provided about 300+ school staff and administrators the necessary tools and resources to engage their communities in the pursuit of safer and healthier schools. The conference focused on the following strands: working with students, building personnel skills/development, understanding safety and security, and managing health.  

 

Key Plenary Session Speakers 

  • Active Shooter Awareness (Day 1: June, 28, 2022) 
    • The awareness provided strategies to prevent and prepare for a potential Active Shooter incident, options to enhance survival when confronted with an Active Shooter, and described actions needed to safely interact with the responding police officers.
    • Presenter: Mr. Joseph Anderson is the subject matter expert on active shooter events, response, and awareness. Along with the FBI, he has trained hundreds of officers to effectively respond to an active shooter event. He is an Airport Police Officer assigned at the Marianas Regional Fusion Center (MRFC) as an Intelligence Analyst.
  • GDOE 5-Year State Strategic Plan - I Chalån-ta Mo’na  (Day 3: June 30, 2022)
    • Presenter: Deputy Superintendent Joseph Sanchez, Curriculum & Instruction

2022 Planning Conference Committee 

Under the direct leadership of Deputy Superintendent Erika S. Cruz, this year's conference was led by the Division of Special Education, under the leadership of Mr. Tom Babauta, Assistant Superintendent of SPED and co-led by the Student Support Services Division with the leadership of Mr. Christopher Anderson, SSSD Administrator. The committee members include:
